Nine Great American Companies That Will Never Recover: 24/7 Wall St.
The takeover of Bank of America by NationsBank was the beginning of the end. At that moment, A.P. Giannini's bank that was built on a true sense of community and innovation ceased to be, and the recklessness, and rudderless ambition of the NationsBank culture took hold. Bigger was better, whether the pieces acquired fit together or not. Like Wiley Coyote, the management team of NationsBank of America ran out of road and found itself plummeting to the canyon floor.
It's sad, because AP Giannini built an admirable bank, primarily focused on the needs of the 99% ... that is why the east coast bankers hated him.
