Texas Voter ID Law Blocked By Justice Department
There should be a Federal Voter ID law that trumps all state and local laws. That law should give a US Citizen a universal voter id once they reach the age of 18 that can be used anywhere in the United States. The Federal Voter ID would be given on a simple criteria ... if the individual is a US Citizen, 18 or older, they receive it. This would be no more intrusive then giving a newborn a Social Security Number or having 18 year-olds sign up for selective service. It is obvious we cannot allow state and local governments manage their own criteria for qualifications for voting for, as we are seeing now, that criteria can be skewed to favor one party over another, or to disenfranchise voters based on some ideological tactic. A Day One approach to Federal Voter ID is that any American Citizen, 18 and older, has the right to vote, and any local or state government that has a problem with a voter's right to vote will have to bring that concern to the Federal Government to address.
So give EVERY American a Federally issued Voter ID that is acceptable identification at any polling place in the United States. That will end these demented Voter ID games at the State level once and for all.
