Oregonian Fires Editor For Giving False Information About Colleague Bob Caldwell's Death
Why would anyone want to defend a man who was exploiting the economic hardship of a 20 year old college student? This final revelation of Caldwell's life defines him. He wasn't helping a student down on her luck. There was no altruism on Caldwell's part. He was trading book money for sex acts. An exploiter like that doesn't deserve someone defending him.
It was unethical what the editor did in this case on many levels and she forfeited her credibility by the choice she made, and had the Oregonian kept her on it would have been a black eye for the paper.
