Iraq-Iran Ties Grow Stronger As Iraq Rises From The Ashes
This was actually a two step process that only goes to a show a prestigious Ivy League education doesn't pay the dividends it once did.
When Bush41 was in office, at the "end" of the Persian Gulf War, his Administration told the Shi'ites of south eastern Iraq that if they were to rise up against Saddam the US would back them ... they did ... we didn't .. and they were slaughtered by Saddam's forces.
The Shi'ites learned a big lesson: "You can't trust Americans"
They then looked back over recent history and re-evaluated the Iran-Iraq War in light of the Persian Gulf War and figured something out. The Americans used Saddam as a proxy in the war against the Iranians .... even gave Saddam the WMD he used against the Iranians, but the Iranians were using an arsenal provided to them by the US under the rule of the Shah.
Millions died in the Iran-Iraq War, and it dawned on the warring parties that the US wanted them to wipe each other out. The US didn't care who won.
After George W Bush deposed Saddam he installed a Shi'ite Government who had been screwed over by his dad.
It makes perfect sense that there is a strong Iraq-Iran bond.
The Ivy Leaguers certainly figured this one out.
