The issues with island claims in the South China Sea is a perfect way for China to play one member of the ASEAN bloc off another. Clinton advising the ASEAN countries to work together in the standoff with China is the best way to prevent encroachment on the nations of SEA by China.
I can see why the Chinese Government is unhappy with Clinton undermining their divide and conquer strategy in terms of ASEAN.
