Why Don't Republicans Understand the Economy?

But the Republicans DO understand the economy quite well. Republicans understand the economy is supposed to serve the rich at the expense of the middle-class and poor. The success the Republicans have realized in meeting this end over the last three decades illustrates the GOP has no problem comprehending the way the economy MUST work. The Republicans also know that as long as they provide their base with someone to hate ... liberal, black, gay, poor, immigrant, etc ... they will have no problem robbing them blind too.

Steve Ballmer To Retire In A Year, Microsoft Announces

Maybe this is why NASDAQ went down for three hours yesterday. Rumors of this were circulating and the market was pulled offline to prevent a programmed trading flash crash, or there were some high-end investors that had Microsoft shorted that would have taken a bath today. The markets are effectively unregulated so we will never know for sure. The SEC won't dig into what happened in anymore than a cosmetic way, so I would be very nervous if I were a NASDAQ investor, for pulling the plug on a Market without a complete explanation is not an indication it is "free."

Louie Gohmert: GOP Lawmakers Meet Weekly To Plot Obamacare's Downfall

These Right Wing goobers can't believe they are being bested by an African American President. It is inconceivable to them they can't win. It is, literally, tearing their party apart. The JBS/Republican neo-confederate beliefs have poisoned their capacity to govern, and laid their party low. They are convinced, CONVINCED they can win this Obamacare fight. They NEED to defeat this President. But I'm telling you straight, these Right Wingers are more hubris than quality. They are dullards with ego. And, frankly, I'm enjoying them tilt at windmills. U.S. Doesn't Know What Snowden Took, Sources Say

How many people think Snowden was a US Government employee when he acquired the data he released?

He wasn't, he was the employee of Booz Allen Hamilton, a US Government contractor.

See, this is the problem US Intelligence has getting a handle on this breach of information. US Intelligence has expanded its reliance on Global Private Sector Intelligence Firms since Reagan's signing of EO12333 in 1981. In his book "The Way of the World" Ron Suskind points out that 70% of CIA clandestine operations has been outsourced. Obviously the NSA is heavily involved in outsourcing as well.

The questions that we need to see asked by Journalists ... and I haven't seen it happen yet ... are:

What percentage of US Intelligence is outsourced to global Intel companies?

Can anyone besides the US contract with these private sector intelligence entities as well, or is an exclusivity agreement maintained?

What oversight does the US Government have over these private sector entities?

Are their routine access audits performed on them?

If this statement is true, that the US is unsure of what data was taken, it also seems to be saying that the US is unaware what information these contractors have access to. That would be very bad.

Kodak's Bankruptcy Exit Plan Approved By Judge

Kodak's fate is a cautionary tale for all businesses. Prior to the development of digital cameras, Kodak had a near monopoly on film stock for still and movie cameras. Paul Simon even had the hit "Kodachrome" after one of Kodak's products. But as soon as digital cameras hit the market, it was over for Kodak. They may still provide film stock for niche markets, but otherwise their era is over. If it can happen to Kodak, it can happen to any company. I think that is why the Fossil Fuel Industry is at open warfare over Climate Change and development of Renewable Energy sources ... they don't want to be the next Kodak.

It's a case of survival of an industry versus progress.

The Tea Party vs. The Public Library

The push for virtual libraries will seemingly come from right and left, who for a number of disparate reasons will include saying that online libraries will be more economical, environmentally friendly, and reach more people. Once the idea is sold and the books are uploaded, then it will be possible to gradually globally edit them over time to smooth out any rough edges the books may contain that would "confuse" the reader. Libraries with actual books are a threat, because, until you burn them, or upload them, they are determined to say exactly what the Author intended.

Remember who the Tea Party is folks, and it ain't a bunch of seniors holding signs that read "Keep your Government hands off my Medicare."

Cory Booker Wins Senate Primary: The Far-Left Wins Nothing -- Again

Definition is off. Not Far-Left, but Left ...

Pragmatic, Center-Left Democrats are actually Conservatives. Go-along to get along types. Egyptian Security Forces Clear Pro-Morsi Sit-Ins, Hundreds Reported Dead (UPDATED)

The People of Egypt toppled Mubarak, and the Muslim Brotherhood exploited the power vacuum to claim power and move the country towards theocracy. The People of Egypt rose once more to topple Morsi and the Muslim brotherhood, and now it seems the Egyptian Army has moved to claim power. The baseline problem is that the Egyptian People want control over the direction of their country, but before they can construct a government power is poached by an established interest group that has always been part of Egypt's underlying political problem.

I sincerely could care less about Mubarak, the Muslim Brotherhood, or the Egyptian Military, I just want to see the Egyptian People get a government that meets their needs and doesn't torment them. Mitch McConnell's Cyber Fears Not Delaying Obamacare In Kentucky

If you think about it, the Republicans have lost every maneuver on Obamacare they tried. ACA initially passed Congress when they were sure they could stop it with a filibuster they didn't wind up having enough votes to initiate. Then, in the 2010 elections, they managed to take the House, but not the Senate, and to really have any leverage over stalling implementation they really, really needed to win the Senate. Then they fell back on the conservative controlled US Supreme Court to declare Obamacare unconstitutional, and that didn't happen. Then the Republicans pulled out all the stops to defeat Obama in the 2012 election and win back the Senate ... giving them the chance to repeal the program outright before its complete roll out in 2014 ... and failed at that too, in both cases.

So now, the reality for the Republicans is this, Obamacare will be implemented, and if the GOP takes back the Senate, retains the House, and wins the White House in 2016, they will be in the position to take benefits away from Americans across the political spectrum, just in time to pay for it in the 2018 midterms and 2020 President election cycles.

This, my friends, is what you call losing ugly.

The Secret History of G.I. Joe

I had G.I. Joe dolls as a kid, being a Kennedy baby, and the odd thing with that toy was that it wasn't created with an adversary. It was just white G.I. Joe and his associated military toys. Maybe it was a function of the times, and the network news coverage of Vietnam on the old RCA console in my parent's living room, but when I got together with friends to play G.I Joe, it generally devolved to them being blown up by some unseen adversary, or, we would load up G.I. Joe in his Jeep and crash him off the sand dunes at the beach, or on a dirt clod hill ... then supply the moans for his broken body. Without an enemy for G.I. Joe to face, in the minds of at least the kids I played with, he was always the causality, ultimately, not the victor. Because G.I. Joe was meant to be an "Action Toy", and really the only action available to him ... except for maybe occasional R&R with Barbie (who, fittingly, began as a souvenir from brothels herself) when I played dolls with the girl who lived next door ... was to blow G. I. Joe up, or otherwise torment him ... for as a kid in the sixties the images of real G.I. Joe were ones of him fighting in the jungles of Vietnam under assault.

Recent Thoughts on Money in Politics

What I would like to see instituted is a Black Box Blind Trust method for campaign contributions.

In this idea anyone, individual or corporation, could donate any amount of money to any candidate no questions asked, there is only one rule: The account would be overseen by an independent group of non-partisan Custodians who will receive incoming anonymous contributions for all candidates in a specific race.

The process of contribution will be though an interface that randomizes a twenty digit alphanumeric identifier forming a unique key for the contribution, The alphanumeric identifier then would be split in half with contributor getting one 10 digit segment and candidate receiving the other. In this way the contribution is tracked, but there is no direct link to the contribution that can be discerned from the generated alpha-numeric identifier. The candidate, and the candidate's campaign can see the pooled balance available for campaign use, but never know from whom a contribution was received or for how much. If the candidate is found to have any specific knowledge of a campaign contributor or the amount contributed that would qualify as a quid-pro-quo arrangement and the candidate would be disqualified from running on the grounds of corruption. If we are able to de-link the contribution from the contributor then, technically, the candidate's campaign funds could either come from a dozen major contributors, or thousands of small ones and they would never know for sure, and, therefore, not owe anyone once elected.

GOP Congressman To Birther Constituent: House Republicans Have The Votes To Impeach Obama

Okay, so the House Republicans impeach President Obama, and, like Bill Clinton, that goes nowhere in the Senate ... or, they wait to see if Republicans get control of the Senate in 2014, and try again, but then there aren't enough votes, even with a Republican Senate Majority, to remove the President from office ... and even if the Republicans succeed in Impeaching the President in the House, and in the Senate trial President Obama is removed from office, Joe Biden becomes President of the United States, and then Joe Biden appoints Hillary Clinton Vice President, and so on, and so forth.

The Tea Party Republicans don't think that far ahead.

Anthony Weiner, Eliot Spitzer Candidacies Embarrass New York City Voters: Poll

There has been quite an effort to bundle Wiener and Spitzer together ... the difference is that Weiner hasn't worked through his issues, it seems, and Spitzer has moved on. There are numerous politicians of both parties that have had personal indiscretions and were able to resume their work in government and be productive for the constituents. Let's be clear, there are extremely few individuals in public office that could weather scrutiny in their private lives and come out unscathed.

The issue with Spitzer, and the reason Quinn, yet another flunky for Wall Street is conflating Weiner with Spitzer ... is because Spitzer is a threat to Wall Street. Spitzer has successfully taken on Wall Street before, and as Comptroller he could really land some significant body blows on Wall Street. So, let's remember that tying Spitzer and Weiner together is a political device, for the benefit of Wall Street ... I'm sure New Yorkers get that.

There is a lesson to be learned from Weiner as well for Progressives and Liberals ... Tea Party politicians can engage in whatever perversion they please and will be given a free ride as long as the deliver for their patrons. Progressive and Liberal Ideology is a threat to the status quo, and, therefore, if you set yourself up as a standard bearer for the Left you better be squeaky clean or you will be destroyed.

Obama To Address Convention Of Disabled Veterans

I can think of a few candidates for additional Constitutional Amendments, one being a War Amendment that ensures all Americans ... including politicians ... have skin in the game if a war is pursued, through war tax for individuals and corporations, conscription and, in the case of politicians, a strict set of rules for escalation into war that could cost them their office if they don't adhere strictly to the guidelines ... including `ZERO` financial contributions from military contractors.

The most important aspect of this War Amendment would be an understanding that the American Taxpayer will be completely responsible for Veterans when they return. Either in affording them opportunities for jobs, housing, and education, or, in the case of Disabled Veterans, complete support of their healthcare related needs in a way that is prompt and comprehensive. I have nothing but respect for groups who provide support to Veterans when they return from their service to meet their various challenges, but let's be completely clear on this ... the American People are COMPLETELY responsible for the well being of Americans who put their lives on the line for their country when they return home in order to return their lives to normalcy. Completely.

Obama Proposes FISA Reforms Amid Growing Concerns Over NSA Surveillance

I really wish there was more focus on the Private Sector Intelligence Industry in this matter. I'm sure the NSA is following the rules they are required to, but what about their contractors? Snowden was working for the Carlyle Groups' Booz Allen Hamilton when he accessed the government data he went on to release. What oversight does the US Government have with these outside contractors, who also have access to communications data? Brian Manning, Bradley's Father, Discusses Son's Sentence With Anderson Cooper (VIDEO)

It is extremely important for citizens of a supposed democracy to know what their government is doing in their name ... for, whether people want to accept it or not, we are all culpable for the actions of our government and wear our governments misdeeds as chains around our necks. The American people prefer well constructed fantasy appraisals of the world to reality, and the darker nature of our leaders will use that desire of self delusion as a tool for their own benefit. The crimes of Manning and Snowden are to have pulled back the curtain on the hidden actions of the United States Government, and as fully vested members of our democracy, make us owners of those actions. We can blame the messengers but the message is still the same, and the American people will be judged, rightfully so, by the way they address these government transgressions in defense of "Freedom."

My instinct is the American people will do nothing, because, as I have noted over 50 years. Americans are big talkers, but rarely take responsibility for anything. That is pretty much the primary character trait for the post WWII generations of America.

All Manning and Snowden did was force our eyes to open when we prefer them closed.

North Carolina Voting Laws Could Hinge On Evidence Of Racism

We must fight fire with fire. It is time to establish a Federal Voter ID and National Voting Access Standards for Federal Elections. The States should be allowed to game their elections anyway they wish if the citizenry tolerates it, but elections for Federal office should be standard Nationwide. Voter Registration Rolls can be maintained in the DoJ or Treasury by the Secret Service. All lawful voters will be given Federal Voter IDs that can be swiped on Federally provided uniform voting machines that provide the voter a receipt. Any question a Poll Watcher might have about a voter's id for a Federal Election will need to be addressed to the Federal Government. Fraud in a Federal Election either as a voter or a Poll Watcher or Precinct Worker will be a Felony. Each polling station will have a uniform number of Machines provided based on the number of registered voters so no line to vote will take longer than 20 minutes.

Again ... this is only for FEDERAL ELECTIONS ... State and Local Elections will not be interfered with. If State Officials want to prohibit use of Federal Voter ID Cards for their elections, they can ... but Federal Elections are not a States Rights issue.

IF this idea is proposed, and Republicans from States with draconian Voter ID Law balk at it, it will be an admission that they are engaged in election fraud rather than an effort to secure the vote.

Obama's Housing Plan: Government To Maintain Significant Role In Mortgages

The United States Government should completely control ALL mortgages and provide an interface between the Financial Sector and the American Consumer.
