Ed DeMarco, Top Housing Official, Defies White House; Geithner Fires Back

-This is not the first time DeMarco has irked the Obama administration. As the acting director of the federal overseer of Fannie and Freddie, DeMarco has broad powers to set policy at the companies.-

Remember, Fannie and Freddie have been a public/PRIVATE partnership for decades. DeMarco is protecting the interests of Bankers in this situation. If Fannie and Freddie were completely government run, without Private Sector interference, we wouldn't be seeing this issue in the first place, for the addressing the Mortgage Holder's issues would come first in order to benefit the greater economy.

DeMarco should find other work, I'm sure it's waiting for him.

John McCain: Mitt Romney Needs To Do More To Court Hispanic Vote

This "self-deport" suggestion made by Romney was just a nonsensical utterance from a candidate that knew he needed to say something on the issue of immigration but wanted to make sure that something would be as insignificant as possible, and, at the same time, would engender a flicker of hope to those on all sides of the immigration question in a kind of positive, unsubstantial and nonthreatening way.

"Self-deportation" isn't deportation but it does mention deportation.

Antonin Scalia: There Are 'Undoubtedly' Limits To A Person's Right To Carry Guns

People need to stop thinking in 2nd Amendment terms when considering guns, and think in terms of Gun Sales. The NRA is a front for Gun Manufacturers, and it has two goals in mind. One is to keep gun laws almost non-existent so anyone can walk in and buy a gun with as much ease as they can buy an IPod. Second, to keep the fear generated that the government is on the brink of confiscating everyone's guns, which leads to hoarding of weapons and ammunition.

Again, don't think about the "Right to Bear Arms" and think in terms of the right to make profit off of guns and ammunition like any other consumer product, for that is the dynamic at play.

All of the 300 million, or so, guns in circulation and the ammunition and accessorizes associated, represent money going into some gun or ammo manufacturer's pocket.

Antonin Scalia Blasts Health Care Reform Decision, Says Supreme Court Is Not 'Political'

the US Supreme court isn't political? In 2000, five Justices who owed their appointment to the high court to George H.W. Bush appointed his son, George W. Bush, President of the United States, in a ruling they declared could not be used as precedent for any future Presidential electoral standoff.

Tell me that wasn't an act of Quid Pro Quo politics. Tell me again that what occurred on 2000 wasn't a coup, with the Supreme Court as its instrument.

Tell me again how the Supreme Court isn't political ... I could use a laugh with my morning coffee.

James Holmes, Suspected Aurora Shooter, May Have Described Killings In Package: Report (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

Here's a question ... how was this maniac not on Homeland Security's radar? I mean, forget the guns, this guy booby trapped his apartment with enough IEDs to take down his building, if not his whole neighborhood.

Here we are, nearly eleven years after the September 11th attacks ... we have this bloated Homeland Security apparatus that George W Bush implemented ... we have to take off our shoes at the airport, and allow TSA to fondle us, or view our nakedness on an X-Ray Spec screen ... the NSA is monitoring our communications ... AND STILL. STILL. This maniac, with his actions, did not trip any Homeland Security alarms.

Let's take a deep breath and say this all together:

"Homeland Security is a complete and utter failure, if not an outright fraud, and we are no safer today than we were on September 10, 2001"

Ted Nugent Slams Response To Aurora Shooting, Suggests Armed Moviegoers Could Have Prevented It

When you consider how steeped in fantasy the American Gun Obsession is, you can see why the "If I were there with my gun, I would have popped up and taken the bad guy down" meme gets so much traction with this crowd.

I worked for ten years with armed guards (I won't specify the industry) I knew five that were killed, and maybe ten more that were shot at, or had a bad guy draw on them. These armed guards were either moonlighting law enforcement, or military veterans who had seen action. These guards practiced on a firing range everyday, and were extremely proficient with firearms ... but in all the cases of confrontation these certified armed professionals encountered, the bad guy came out on top all but two times as I recall.

When I say I knew five who were killed, I mean these were guys I worked with on a daily basis, and joked around with. They were friends. I had no reason to believe they were unable to defend themselves or weren't experts with their firearms. But firearm expertise, in terms of gunfights, has minimal value, even though the opposite seems logical. The bad guy doesn't always come at you like a stationary target does. The element of surprise, and the willingness to kill is all an assailant needs to take down an armed professional.

Killers don't wait to be killed.

Middle-Class Tax Cuts Preserved For A Year In Bill Passed By Senate (UPDATE)

I saw Ezra Klein discussing how this vote was symbolic because under the Constitution tax bills are required to originate in the House not the Senate, but I don't really buy the notion it was only a symbolic vote.

Here is my rational as to why the Republicans are really checkmated on this:

The vote to extend the Tax Cuts for Americans making $250,000 a year passed in the Senate, while the vote to extend all of the Bush Tax Cuts, including for the Rich, failed.

Therefore.

If the House Republicans were to send a Bill extending just the Middle Class tax cuts it would pass a Senate vote immediately. So by not sending such a bill to the Senate the House Republicans are raising taxes on the Middle Class. House Republicans own the Tax Increase.

However.

If the House Republicans bend to pressure and send the bill to extend the Middle Class tax cuts to the Senate, and Mitch McConnell decides to invoke the filibuster to block a re-vote on the extension ... then the Senate Republicans own the Middle Class tax increase, for the bill to extend the Middle Class Tax Cuts would pass without the obstruction.

So currently, anyway the Republicans move, besides passing the Middle Class Tax Cut extension in the House and Senate, they will own a Tax Increase on the American Middle Class.

As I said, checkmate.

Sandy Weill, In Stunning Reversal, Tells CNBC It's Time To Break Up The Banks

Is it conscience, or something else?

I look at it like this, Weill, though retired, has a clearer view than most how bad things actually are. When the system was clicking there was no turning back, but there was always that file labeled "Worst Case Scenario" lying in some risk manager's desk.

Weill read it.

Weill recognizes the direction things are are heading and he sees a couple of disconcerting things I'm sure.

One, he recognizes that the global economy is fully integrated and issues arising in the EU, China, India, England, Brazil, Japan, etc will definitely have tremendous impact on the US as well. The tea leaves for Weill, as for others, likely read crash.

Second, Weill knows his industry got off lucky in 2008. The blow back was superficial, no meaningful regulations implemented, even a continuation of bonuses for guilty parties in the financial sector ... but if another crash hits, with impact worse that in 2008, Weill's industry may find itself in a regulatory Iron Maiden for decades, as was the case after the Great Depression.

Weill most definitely sees what's coming.

Mitt Romney's Foreign Policy Address Sidesteps Syria, Hits Obama On Leaks

With the signing of EO12333 in 1981, President Reagan outsourced clandestine services of the CIA to the Private Sector in order the circumvent the Church Committee's prohibitions on the CIA's activities as revealed in the CIA's "Family Jewels" reports. Ostensibly, EO12333 was advertised as reining in the CIA's more controversial activities, but the Contracting Clause loophole allowed the CIA to retain off book, third party contractors to provide goods and services that the Agency wasn't required to officially account for, creating plausible deniability for the Agency if any untoward actions were to come to light,

So what has this to do with White House leaks?

Since EO12333 was put into effect 70% of CIA clandestine services has been outsourced to the Private Sector, meaning that leaks, even involving POTUS, could easily come from anywhere in the US Intelligence Apparatus depending on the political agenda of the leaker or the contractor he/she works for.

In other words, not even the White House can be completely sure where intelligence leaks are coming from anymore.

Michael Bloomberg Criticizes Obama, Romney On Gun Control After Colorado Shooting (VIDEO)

It's time to pull the mask off the NRA as well. The NRA uses emotional pleas of threats to the 2nd Amendment to gin up its membership and frighten politicians in both political parties. The NRA works tirelessly to eliminate restrictions on guns across the nation, under the theme of protecting gun rights from government encroachment.

The only reason the NRA is so adamant about the free flow of guns is because the NRA fronts for US Gun Manufacturers who want to maximize sales like any business does. That's it.

Why is it impossible for the ATF to derail the laundering of guns through gun shops in Arizona to the Mexican Drug Cartels? Because Gun Manufactures are using that as a revenue stream. That is the purpose of the NRA, to keep the revenue stream of US Gun Manufacturers unimpeded, under the guise of protecting the 2nd Amendment.

Every time the NRA screams "THEY'RE COMING TO TAKE YOUR GUNS AWAY!!!!!" What happens? What happens? Sales in guns and ammo spike. It is easy to see the correlation.

It is easy to see that the NRA fronts for the US Gum Manufacturers the same way AHIP fronts for the private health insurance industry. The NRA is nothing but a trade association for US Gun Manufacturers with general public membership offered. The NRA is a scam.

Batman Shooting: Names Of Victims Emerge In Aurora, Colo. Century 16 Theater Rampage (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

I think the gun nuts need to get over the idea that somehow someone armed in that theater would have been able to take down the assailant . In addition to the weapons this psycho had he was able secure body armor. You would have needed a trained sniper to take this guy down.

It would be in bad taste to post the link here, but I would advise people who think an average citizen would be able to address an extreme situation like this to look up the YouTube video of the Bank Heist in LA in 1997, where two heavily armed gunman in body armor, with assault weapons were able to hold 400 police officers at bay until they were finally taken down. This type of assault is not easily dealt with.

People need to come to terms with reality that the only thing that protects us from more horrendous events like this is that more psychos haven't snapped like this one and taken a similar path. Currently, there is absolutely nothing preventing a massacre like this taking place everyday in the United States. Nothing.

Matt Taibbi: 'I Can't Imagine How A Sane Person Could Possibly Describe This As A Victimless Crime'

Taibbi is right on the mark again.

I would add, in light of the LIBOR tampering, I that we can put to rest the notion that Banks are sitting on money because of uncertainly about the regulatory environment. More likely, with the revelation that LIBOR had been tampered with, in part, to make sick Banks look healthier than the actually are ... the Banks are sitting on the money because of solvency issues, not because they are afraid the Government is going to hit them with new regulations.

Of course, if the regulations Banks are concerned about are the ones that would end their fraud and force their insolvency out of the shadows, well then, I can see their point.

James Holmes Identified As Alleged Aurora, Colorado Theater Shooter That Left 12 Dead (PHOTOS, LIVEBLOG)

What we miss in all this gun mess we suffer with in the United States is that guns are a Consumer Product, like an IPod or a a pair of Nike Shoes. This is what we miss in the fight over Second Amendment rights, the Second Amendment is just a ploy. The US Gun Manufacturers Trade Organization ... the NRA ... uses the Second Amendment the same way a car company uses attractive women to sell its product.

The Product the US Gun Manufacturers are selling are guns and ammunition.

We need to see this gun rights nonsense for what it truly is and recognize the marketing strategy the US Gun Manufacturers employ through their trade organization ... the NRA.

The NRA's main job is to protect the Second Amendment by making it seem to be under threat, when it isn't. This constant reenforcing of the Second Amendment under threat causes gun enthusiasts to hoard guns and ammo, driving up sales. At the same time, the NRA works diligently to buy politicians and keep gun laws weak, allowing sales of guns and ammo to flourish.

It is time to confront the marketing strategy of the US Gun Manufacturers via the NRA, and inject some sanity into the gun ownership issue.

This madness must stop, for a nation where everyone needs a gun to feel safe isn't Free.

LIBOR Investigation: Justice Department Building Criminal Cases Against Barclays, Others

I thought Warren Buffet's comments recently were quite interesting on how the civil lawsuits attending this fraud would be asymmetric, in that those who were on the losing side of LIBOR tampering in a certain transaction were likely to sue, but those who were on the winning side would keep quiet about it. The thing is, this fraud has been going on for a long time, so it is likely that all institutional participants were winners and losers at one time or another, depending on the transaction in question.

On the other hand, the public, who was completely in the dark with this fraud, was consistently the loser with interest rates, will they be made whole? That would be extremely expensive for someone.
