A nice audit of the Pentagon would be a good start. We might find a lot of programs that are meaningless cash cows with no application in the real world. Also, the bloated defense budget is a National Security issue. Consider if China or Russia were to exhibit the the same extreme level of military spending ... would the rest of the world take comfort in that or would they be wary of being the next Afghanistan or Iraq? If the United States wants to be seen as a threat to the rest of the world, the absurd buildup of Military expenditures is definitely the path to that end.
