Dianne Feinstein On Guns: 2012 Election Year Not Ideal For Debate

In terms of guns, Senator Feinstein has a unique perspective compared to all but a few members of Congress, for she discovered the bodies of Mayor George Moscone, and Supervisor Harvey Milk after Dan White assassinated them. When speaking in terms of guns, Feinstein isn't waxing on hypotheticals.

Michael Bloomberg Criticizes Obama, Romney On Gun Control After Colorado Shooting (VIDEO)

It's time to pull the mask off the NRA as well. The NRA uses emotional pleas of threats to the 2nd Amendment to gin up its membership and frighten politicians in both political parties. The NRA works tirelessly to eliminate restrictions on guns across the nation, under the theme of protecting gun rights from government encroachment.

The only reason the NRA is so adamant about the free flow of guns is because the NRA fronts for US Gun Manufacturers who want to maximize sales like any business does. That's it.

Why is it impossible for the ATF to derail the laundering of guns through gun shops in Arizona to the Mexican Drug Cartels? Because Gun Manufactures are using that as a revenue stream. That is the purpose of the NRA, to keep the revenue stream of US Gun Manufacturers unimpeded, under the guise of protecting the 2nd Amendment.

Every time the NRA screams "THEY'RE COMING TO TAKE YOUR GUNS AWAY!!!!!" What happens? What happens? Sales in guns and ammo spike. It is easy to see the correlation.

It is easy to see that the NRA fronts for the US Gum Manufacturers the same way AHIP fronts for the private health insurance industry. The NRA is nothing but a trade association for US Gun Manufacturers with general public membership offered. The NRA is a scam.

Batman Shooting: Names Of Victims Emerge In Aurora, Colo. Century 16 Theater Rampage (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

I think the gun nuts need to get over the idea that somehow someone armed in that theater would have been able to take down the assailant . In addition to the weapons this psycho had he was able secure body armor. You would have needed a trained sniper to take this guy down.

It would be in bad taste to post the link here, but I would advise people who think an average citizen would be able to address an extreme situation like this to look up the YouTube video of the Bank Heist in LA in 1997, where two heavily armed gunman in body armor, with assault weapons were able to hold 400 police officers at bay until they were finally taken down. This type of assault is not easily dealt with.

People need to come to terms with reality that the only thing that protects us from more horrendous events like this is that more psychos haven't snapped like this one and taken a similar path. Currently, there is absolutely nothing preventing a massacre like this taking place everyday in the United States. Nothing.

Matt Taibbi: 'I Can't Imagine How A Sane Person Could Possibly Describe This As A Victimless Crime'

Taibbi is right on the mark again.

I would add, in light of the LIBOR tampering, I that we can put to rest the notion that Banks are sitting on money because of uncertainly about the regulatory environment. More likely, with the revelation that LIBOR had been tampered with, in part, to make sick Banks look healthier than the actually are ... the Banks are sitting on the money because of solvency issues, not because they are afraid the Government is going to hit them with new regulations.

Of course, if the regulations Banks are concerned about are the ones that would end their fraud and force their insolvency out of the shadows, well then, I can see their point.

James Holmes Identified As Alleged Aurora, Colorado Theater Shooter That Left 12 Dead (PHOTOS, LIVEBLOG)

What we miss in all this gun mess we suffer with in the United States is that guns are a Consumer Product, like an IPod or a a pair of Nike Shoes. This is what we miss in the fight over Second Amendment rights, the Second Amendment is just a ploy. The US Gun Manufacturers Trade Organization ... the NRA ... uses the Second Amendment the same way a car company uses attractive women to sell its product.

The Product the US Gun Manufacturers are selling are guns and ammunition.

We need to see this gun rights nonsense for what it truly is and recognize the marketing strategy the US Gun Manufacturers employ through their trade organization ... the NRA.

The NRA's main job is to protect the Second Amendment by making it seem to be under threat, when it isn't. This constant reenforcing of the Second Amendment under threat causes gun enthusiasts to hoard guns and ammo, driving up sales. At the same time, the NRA works diligently to buy politicians and keep gun laws weak, allowing sales of guns and ammo to flourish.

It is time to confront the marketing strategy of the US Gun Manufacturers via the NRA, and inject some sanity into the gun ownership issue.

This madness must stop, for a nation where everyone needs a gun to feel safe isn't Free.

John Boehner, Nancy Pelosi Agree Lawmakers Shouldn't Have To Release Their Tax Returns

You know what, I expect transparency from my employees. If elected officials feel it is their right to obfuscate in terms of their finances, especially when they are working in a profession where graft, corruption and quid pro quo arrangements aren't unheard of ... I'd say they should step down and find another line of work, whatever the party.

When voters send politicians to Washington to serve, these politicians need to be constantly reminded that their office isn't an entitlement, and that their constituents ...aka EMPLOYERS ... aren't honoring them with the position so they can get rich and sell The People out.

I know that's not how it currently works, but that is the voters fault for not keeping their representatives on a tight leash.

"We the People", not "You People" are the hiring manager in this situation. If your husband, Mitt, the job candidate, is unhappy with the interview process he can get out of the chair, and walkout the door ... we have another candidate in the position of President now, doing a difficult job quite well, and we can just stick with him.

Obama Approval Rating Dragged Down By Economy, New Poll Shows

The Republicans put the United States into a Depression in 2008, and President Obama should have hammered that fact home from the day he was inaugurated. President Obama surrounded himself with financial advisers up to their neck in responsibility for the economic crash, who were more interested in protecting themselves and their culpable friends in the Financial Sector than addressing the needs of the crisis as were called for.

President Obama should never taken ownership for this Republican Depression, that was a Pollyanna move on his part and I knew it would come to bite him later.

So here we are.

John Boehner: Obama Doesn't Care About The Middle Class

For Speaker Boehner and Mitch McConnell talk on the Middle Class is cheap. They can take one step, right now, that will help the Middle Class ... extending the Tax Cuts ... and they refuse to do it.

If Speaker Boehner and Mitch McConnell sent an extension of Middle Class Tax Cuts to the President right now, he would sign it.

LIBOR Investigation: Justice Department Building Criminal Cases Against Barclays, Others

I thought Warren Buffet's comments recently were quite interesting on how the civil lawsuits attending this fraud would be asymmetric, in that those who were on the losing side of LIBOR tampering in a certain transaction were likely to sue, but those who were on the winning side would keep quiet about it. The thing is, this fraud has been going on for a long time, so it is likely that all institutional participants were winners and losers at one time or another, depending on the transaction in question.

On the other hand, the public, who was completely in the dark with this fraud, was consistently the loser with interest rates, will they be made whole? That would be extremely expensive for someone.

Mitt Romney is engaging in Doublethink.

Orwell's definition of Doublethink from "1984"

"The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them... To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just as long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies – all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth"

Iraq-Iran Ties Grow Stronger As Iraq Rises From The Ashes

This was actually a two step process that only goes to a show a prestigious Ivy League education doesn't pay the dividends it once did.

When Bush41 was in office, at the "end" of the Persian Gulf War, his Administration told the Shi'ites of south eastern Iraq that if they were to rise up against Saddam the US would back them ... they did ... we didn't .. and they were slaughtered by Saddam's forces.

The Shi'ites learned a big lesson: "You can't trust Americans"

They then looked back over recent history and re-evaluated the Iran-Iraq War in light of the Persian Gulf War and figured something out. The Americans used Saddam as a proxy in the war against the Iranians .... even gave Saddam the WMD he used against the Iranians, but the Iranians were using an arsenal provided to them by the US under the rule of the Shah.

Millions died in the Iran-Iraq War, and it dawned on the warring parties that the US wanted them to wipe each other out. The US didn't care who won.

After George W Bush deposed Saddam he installed a Shi'ite Government who had been screwed over by his dad.

It makes perfect sense that there is a strong Iraq-Iran bond.

The Ivy Leaguers certainly figured this one out.

Mitt Romney Sitting Down With 5 Networks In Friday Interview Blitz

2) Since the swearing in of Ronald Reagan, in 1981, the direction of the United States was determined by Right Wing Republicans and Corporate Democrats ... the deterioration of the quality of life, economy, and infrastructure in the United States (i.e. Public School System) is their responsibility. Felon Voting Laws Disenfranchise 5.85 Million Americans With Criminal Records: The Sentencing Project

I think the answer to this is simple. If a person is serving time in Prison for a crime they should have their voting right restricted ... when they serve their time they should get their right to vote back. Then again, if the purpose for charging minorities and the poor with felonies is to get them off the voter rolls then the answer to a reasonable suggestion, like mine, would be to lengthen sentences and find reasons to implement more life sentences. No Mr Kernen. It seems you folks invited Paul Krugman on under the false pretense of talking about his book, but it was really for the purpose to attack the economic positions of a Nobel Prize Winning Economist, with stale talking points from the flailing financial fraud industry.

The goal of the CNBC panel was to, in some way, undermine the logical underpinnings of Mr Krugman's economic positions, and you, and your panel failed miserably. The reason you failed, is because your are used to interacting with two-dimensional industry hacks who live on parroted talking points, not people who invest their lives in studying economics and its ramifications. The Real Battle in 2012 and Beyond (Video)

Excellent video, Professor Reich, that every American should see.

We need to consider something very important about how the Progressive Era was an accident of history. the Progressive Era began when Theodore Roosevelt became President after the assassination of President William McKinley. The Republicans needed TR on the ticket, due to his Spanish American War popularity, but he was viewed as a loose cannon that wasn't trusted by the leaders of the GOP. Mark Hanna, who viewed TR as a "Madman" was terrified to have TR as McKinley's VP because of exactly what happened. The goal of the GOP leadership was to end Roosevelt's political career by making him VP, considered a dead-end job for national politics at that time ... it didn't work out that way.

TR started the Progressive Era, and furthered it when his challenge of Taft in 1912 put Wilson in the White House. FDR would never have been considered for President had there been no cousin Teddy's record to put the wind in his sails. And Eleanor being TR's niece didn't hurt things either.

Point being ... there should have never been a Progressive Era to begin with, and now the Regressives want to take us back to 1901 and put the bullet back in Leon Czolgosz's gun.

Progressives need to protect the benefits our predecessors gifted the United States with.

It is our duty.

Boy, Are Americans Not Overtaxed

I was listening to Thom Hartman today and he was discussing a very valid idea that Huey Long once promoted ... a Wealth Cap. What Thom was talking in terms of was a tax of 100% on any wealth over $999,999,999. That would still allow people to become very. very wealthy, but would eliminate an Aristocracy that would feel comfortable dumping $400 million dollars into an election to influence the outcome. There is no necessity for mischievous billionaire wealth hoarders in the United States of America.

Huey Long had the right idea in the 1930s and we would have been in much better shape today if we had enacted his plan. I'm glad Thom Hartman is resurrecting a modified version of Long's idea.

Credit Card Borrowing For Everyday Living Expenses On The Rise

We have been in a Depression since the crash of 2008. When I saw the rise in credit card usage over the last year or so combined with high unemployment and underemployment, and the massive loss in personal wealth Americans suffered since the 2008 collapse, I knew the usage was related to Americans turning to their credit cards to meet basic needs. What this means, in the big picture, is that the credit card companies are sitting on billions of dollars in accounts whose debts will never be repaid. I think that should be cause for alarm for the industry and those who invest in it.
