I'm guessing the NRA is so steadfast against Universal Background Checks because it would tip off the Feds to straw buyers the US Gun Manufacturers use to traffic guns. I bet that's quite a lucrative "off book" business. The President of Mexico has already complained about the wide open spigot of firearms flowing from the US into his country ... someone has to buy them in gun shops in Arizona and Texas and transport them. Universal background checks would blow the cover off that game almost immediately.
And remember ... the number one goal of the NRA is to maximize sales of guns and ammunition for the US Gun Manufacturers they represent.
