Obama: Gitmo A 'No Man's Land,' Situation Is 'Going To Get Worse'

GITMO is another Bush War Crime. The Bush Administration needed props to scare the American people into going to war and giving up their civil rights and the goat herders that are starving themselves to death now are as much victims of Bush's GWOT as the other civilians that were caught in the crossfire.

Remote Control: Our Drone Delusion

Here is the cute little clause in EO12333 that opens Pandora's Box to any kind of murderous mischief and mayhem the CIA wants to engage in:

2.7 CONTRACTING

Agencies within the Intelligence Community are authorized to

enter into contracts or arrangements for the provision of goods or

services with private companies or institutions in the United

States and need not reveal the sponsorship of such contracts or

arrangements for authorized intelligence purposes. Contracts or

arrangements with academic institutions may be undertaken only with

the consent of appropriate officials of the institution.

http://www.fas.org/irp/offdocs/eo12333.htm

The CIA is prohibited from doing a great many things ... including assassinations ... but the Contracting Clause allows the CIA to hire private sector "services" to handle such activities that provides the Agency with plausible denability.

The Drone program is remarkably transparent under the circumstances.

Lamar Smith, GOP Push Politicization Of Scientific Research

What this indicates to me is that the special interests that back this restrictive approach to science recognize scientific research could eliminate their political and economic control, and render their industries obsolete. This admission on the special interest's part buoys my optimism for the future and demonstrates the need for the American People to up the ante on non-politicized scientific research so they and their descendents can enjoy the scientific benefits of tomorrow, as our predecessors gifted us.

Sandra Day O'Connor Doubts Decision To Take Bush v. Gore

The outcome of Bush v. Gore was a simple case of quid pro quo, for the five Supreme Court Justices that voted to appoint George W Bush President of the United States all owed their seats to the Reagan/Bush Administrations. The only outlier was Justice Souter, who actually approached the decision as a Jurist rather than a henchman.

Had Justice Thomas done the honorable thing, he would have recused himself from the decision on the basis he owed his seat on the high court, most directly, to George HW Bush, the appointed President's father.

Matt Taibbi: The Biggest Financial Scandal Yet

The problem is that Economics is an Art not a Science ... though it is portrayed as akin to Mathematics it has little in common. Economics is a product of the human imagination, and it lives in the realm of the speculative. 2+2=4 unless you live in the world of George Orwell or perform in the theatre of Economics where the plus sign may or may not mean "plus" depending on the ideological interpretation. That is why at the same time the educated and enlightened of the "Serious Class" laughed off the notion of a trillion dollar platinum coin, and, at the same time, the Financial Sector counterfeiting wealth through unregulated derivatives and credit default swaps to the tune of two quadrillion dollars globally is viewed as completely reasonable.

In short, it is all a big Con, and the closer the analysis of the "man behind the curtain" we are not supposed to pay attention to, the larger the Con becomes ... and, arguably, more frightening and consequential.

Times Square Targeted By Boston Marathon Bombing Suspects, FBI Says

All in all, with our borders porous, eleven million undocumented individuals living here, free and easy access to weapons and explosives, terrorist learning materials available on the internet, vast amounts of ammonium nitrate stored outside of DHS oversight, and even having FBI interviews with terrorists not sidelining them from committing heinous acts ... Americans should be breathing a sigh of relief that the Boston bombing was the first successful high profile attack since 09.11.2001. Considering there isn't anything really in place to prevent terrorist attacks from taking place, it is nice to know that our enemies are obviously not trying too hard to get us.

Lawmaker Unemployment Hearing Attended By Single Member of Congress At Opening

You see, unemployment, from the perspective of the special interests that own Congress, is actually a good thing. It causes fear in the population to see so many relatives, friends and neighbors out work, and fear breeds obedience in those still employed who don't want to see their lives fall apart as others who are unemployed have. Good obedient workers who don't complain, don't ask for raises, are willing to give up benefits, are willing to work extra time off the clock, are willing to forgo vacations, are willing to work from home, where possible, when sick ... is exactly what the Corporations, who front for the nation's elite, want. Americans in debt, and terrified of losing everything if they step out of line are better than slaves.

So why would congressmen want to attend this frivolous hearing, when the downside of high unemployment is exactly their goal. Every unemployed American is a reminder to those still employed that they better keep their nose to the grindstone and their mouths shut.

Republicans Urge Obama To Treat Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Boston Suspect, As 'Enemy Combatant'

I have questions for the GOP Senators ... why didn't the suspension of Civil Rights in the Patriot Act, and the costly expansion of the US Security State through the creation of the Department of Homeland Security prevent this terrorist attack in Boston from happening? Why did it not foresee the mayhem at Aurora, or Newtown, or the assassination of Dr Tiller ... all terrorist acts as well? Why did the Republicans in the Senate just vote to kill background checks on guns ... inviting any criminal or terrorist to access to all the weaponry they need to engage is mass murder of Americans? Why do Republican Senators scream for border control, and the same time they keep the borders wide open so the US Business constituents have uninterrupted access to low wage, undocumented workers? Why are Fertilizer Plants, like the one that just blew up the town of West, Texas, allowed to store insane amounts of ammonium nitrate under the radar of the DHS? Ammonium nitrate having been the key component in the destruction of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. It seems to me, Republican Senators, if DHS has no idea how much ammonium nitrate is being stored at Fertilizer Plants, they also have no idea who has access to it. That doesn't strike me as a definition of "Homeland Security".

Labeling the bomber an "Enemy Combatant" is just cosmetic at this point. There is no Homeland Security.

Boston Explosion News: At Least 3 Dead, 140 Injured In Marathon Bombing (LIVE UPDATES)

If this was an attack from abroad I believe we would already know, because foreign terrorist groups always rush to claim credit. I also think there are many Americans who, in their heart of hearts, want this to be a foreign attack, because the implications of this as a domestic attack recalibrate things in a disconcerting way. I remember the failed attack in Spokane where a white separatist group left a bomb in a backpack along the route of a MLK parade ... that was the first thing that came to mind in this case, not Saudis. These folks show they have experience with bomb making, and, as in Timothy McVeigh's case, have military background ... so even if the bomb has the signature of an IED found in Afghanistan or Iraq, that doesn't remove domestic terrorism from the equation.

One additional thing, whomever did this needs to have been classified as terrorists under the broad definition of the word, and should be treated exactly the same way an Al Qeada terrorist would be once identified. We can't be sentimental if these villains turnout to be Americans, and if they are Americans, and want to play Ruby Ridge Second Amendment Games ... cook them to the ground with airstrikes. Don't give them the pleasure of a gunfight.

Kentucky Democrats Are Still Playing Mitch McConnell's Game

McDonald's Orders Friendly Service After Customer Complaints Rise: Report

I once worked for a business that decided it wanted to institute a tie policy. I don't like wearing ties. Never have.
