The Obama Administration Is Criminalizing Investigative Reporting

Why does anyone need to criminalize investigative reporting when the US Media is so efficient in binding itself in a chastity belt to prevent real, valuable reporting? I guess it is the outliers that actually engage in investigative reporting the Obama Administration is after.

One of the most important stories associated with Bush's Global War on Terror wasn't even covered in the US Press, though Naomi Klein cited it in an article "Manila's Rebel Soldiers." This was the story of Michael Meiring, an individual described variously as a CIA Agent, Treasure Hunter, or Islamist Terrorist Supporter, depending on the phase of the moon. Meiring blew himself up arming an IED in his Hotel room in Davao, Philippines, at a time when local bombings ... attributed to Abu Sayyaf ... were justification for the presence of US Troops in Mindanao. When Philippine Authorities found evidence linking Meiring to Islamist Terrorist groups and reported it to the US. Americans who identified themselves as "FBI "extracted the wounded Meiring from his hospital against the wishes of Philippine authorities.

There were journalists in the Philippines, India and other nations who reported on this but not the US ... Why?

There is your problem with investigative reporting in the United States.
