The cost of PBS is negligible ... it's the content that the Republicans abhor. And it has nothing to do with Big Bird.
The Chamber of Commerce does not have the tight control of content over PBS and NPR that it does over the corporate owned media. Let's understand one thing, PBS, and NPR are as close to a Free Press as the United States has at the institutional level. Most Americans are deluded into thinking that corporate owned media outlets are examples of the "Free Press" ... they aren't. What they are are examples of is Americas "Private Press." Media Outlets owned by powerful corporate interests that tailor content to support their needs. You rarely see any in depth coverage of labor disputes, or chemical spills, or nuclear plant issues ... this is not accidental. NBC, owned by General Electric, was a big cheerleader for the Persian Gulf war, and Iraq Invasion. which makes perfect sense, because GE is also a Defense Contractor. As I say, none of this is accidental.
PBS and NPR, are inexpensive for what they provide to the American people, but they aren't completely controlled by Corporations ... and the little truth that slips through in their programming, from time to time, is completely unacceptable to Corporate America, an entity so corrupt it can't afford any daylight shined upon it.
... even by Big Bird.
