I really don't think there is much shock associated with this outcome. I received a tweet from an under reported news site a few days ago that talked about how Chavez's re-election looked to be a lock. He had been polling in the lead during the whole campaign, and his opponent, Capriles, wasn't gaining much ground on him. Think about it, does anyone think that if Hugo Chavez was at risk of losing that it wouldn't have been heavily reported by Fox "News" for weeks? Everyone in the US Media knew Chavez would win, otherwise there would have been more coverage beyond feeble last minute mentions of the election before it occurred. Chavez losing would have been the foundation of a huge narrative about the rejection of the Left in Central and South America, and all the other, typical, pro-Capitalism nonsense we are used to. Capriles was too risky a bet, and throwing in with him in a meaningful way only to have him lose to Chavez in the end would have sent the wrong message. So instead we get the insinuation of cheating by Chavez, the usual flack thrown up when the Elite doesn't get its way.
At the end of the day, whomever the Venezuelans chose as their leader is their business, not ours. They know their conditions far better than we do,
