Harry Reid: Filibuster Rule Has 'Been Abused,' Needs Changing
People were screaming about changing the Filibuster rule in 2008, and the fear was of what would happen if the new 51 rule was in place and the Republicans took over the Senate, what a nightmare that would be for Democrats.
Think about this, though. Had Reid passed the 51 rule when the Democrats had that creaky 60 seat majority, a whole ton of positive legislation would have been passed that the American people would have benefited from directly. Why would the voters turnout the Democrats if they were feeling positive affects from their legislation? That's nonsensical. The Republicans have been engaging in historical levels of Filibuster because they wanted to inhibit the electorate from feeling the benefit of Democrat legislation, because they knew it would but them back in the permanent minority as they had been for decades in the Senate.
Hopefully the Democrats hold the Senate and regain the House. Then changing the Filibuster rule would pay true dividends to the American people and the Democratic Party ... that is if the Democrats start acting like true Populist Democrats again and not the quisling Vichy Dems we've been suffering with since the 80's.
