Let's be clear here, what the Republicans are selling is Country Club Populism, not Populism, and slowly but surely the American people, including the Republicans own Tea Party base, are cluing into that fact. Remember there was a Television Show about the Eisenhower era of 90% taxes on the top income earners and it was called "Happy Days".
The President needs to push the raising taxes on the rich, closing corporate loopholes, and instituting a transaction tax on Wall Street. It is obvious to anyone honestly looking at the situation that the United States has a revenue problem that throwing the elderly off Medicare and Social Security won't solve.
